"The Antagonistic Beats of a Story"

The Antagonistic Beats of a Story

When crafting a story, it’s only natural to focus on the protagonist and what makes them such an important character. But the antagonist is just as important to the story as the protagonist. Without the antagonist, there would be no conflict. Without conflict, there is no struggle. And without struggle, how can the protagonist have a character arc?

In this course, we’re going to dive into the role of the antagonist of the story and how their actions are just as important to the story structure (with beats that are dedicated to the antagonist).

But we’re not going to focus on just the antagonists that are embodied by another character. Oh no… We’re also going to dive into the antagonists that come in the form of nature, societal norms, and our own inner demons.

Dates and times for the 2025 classes are still to be confirmed.

Building an Online Platform Safely

Building an Online Platform Safely

To survive in today's publishing industry, a writer needs to be online. But building an online platform is an overwhelming and daunting task, with many pitfalls and horror stories surrounding the internet. But it's time to take control over our online presence and build that platform with confidence.

In this session, we will:

  • assess physical and internet security and how activities online could be adversely impacting on that security;
  • discuss the different components commonly included in a platform and how to manage the security and time pressures of those sites without going coo-coo;
  • discover the true costs associated with a custom domain and how to keep protect private contact information; and
  • learn about the benefits of different social media platforms and how to cross-post without looking like a person who can't complete a sentence.

We’ll even explore the benefits (and negatives) of blogging.

This session is NOT about marketing or how to build a following, but rather a look at how to keep yourself, your family, and your reputation safe.

Dates and times for the 2025 classes are still to be confirmed.
