BW Scrivener Compile Settings: eBook with Multiple Parts (Mac)

This file generates the settings necessary to properly compile projects using the BW Non-Fiction Book template into a format suitable for eBook.

This file is for the Mac version of Scrivener.

Note (July 2017): the Windows version of Scrivener applies the first line indentation to ALL main body paragraphs. If you require this feature, you will need to either use the Mac version, or manually change the formating using an external program.

Note (July 2017): Scrivener (Windows and Mac versions) compiles ePub files using the ePub2 protocol. If you require files using the ePub3 protocol, you will need to convert them using an external program.

This file generates the settings necessary to properly compile projects using the BW templates into a format suitable for submission to an agent or publisher.

This file is for the Mac version of Scrivener.

Compile settings used:

  • Standard manuscript formatting
    • Times New Roman 12pt
    • Letter paper
    • 1-inch margins
    • Double-spaced lines
    • Left justification of text
    • Half-inch first line indentation
    • Chapter numbers/titles centered, in full capitals
    • Name/TITLE/page# included in the header except page 1
    • All special text colors, highlighting, and hyperlinks are removed
  • Compile structure assumes usage of either BW Novel with Prologue or BW Multi-Book Project

Note: This particular compile setting variant assumes that chapter names/titles are included (other than CHAPTER 1: NAME). If you do not wish to include titles, please use BW Submission TNR Letter.

BW Scrivener Template: Book with Multiple Parts & Chapters

This template for Scrivener was developed by the Black Wolf editor to create a book that contains chapters separated into multiple parts. The structure was designed to accommodate a Preface and Appendices. To generate the proper compile output, use this in conjunction with the compile settings also developed by the Black Wolf editor.

This template is for both the Mac and Windows versions of Scrivener. (Ensure you are using the latest version.)

Included in this template:

  • Manuscript structure for chapters separated in multiple parts
    • Structure accommodates a Preface and Appendices
  • Front matters for beta readers
  • Front matters for paperback book
    • Contains reminders of the added preamble material that should be included in a printed book
    • Notes on how to create a Table of Contents is included in the Template Information within the project file.
  • Front matters for eBook
    • Contains reminders of the added preamble material that should be included in an eBook
  • Template sheets for characters and settings (should you desire them).

Note: it is assumed that books using this structure will be self-published, and hence will require a certain level of post-compile format tweaking. The structure generated by this template is more commonly used in non-fiction books.

BW Scrivener Template: Project with Multiple Books

This template for Scrivener was developed by the Black Wolf editor to create a single project that contains multiple books. Note that it is assumed that each book will be compiled separately and will not have a prologue. To generate the proper compile output, use this in conjunction with the compile settings also developed by the Black Wolf editor.

This template is for both the Mac and Windows versions of Scrivener. (Ensure you are using the latest version.)
