Leaving out contractions might help you make your NaNoWriMo word counts, but believe it or not, it does make editing a much more tedious process in the end. All dialogue needs to be natural for the characters. If your characters are formal and are not inclined to use contractions, then sure, go ahead, leave them out. However, most people naturally use contractions. Don’t force yourself to not use them just because you’re after that high word count. NaNoWriMo is about writing and developing a writing habit. The word count is just a goal, but not the only goal.
