Tip of the Day: Time to ask whether that scene is needed

As you go through your manuscript, looking at the various scenes and plots, be critical. Does that scene really add value to your story as a whole? During early drafts, this question might not be easy to answer, but here is a simple way to tell: if you were to remove the scene, how much of the other scenes need to be edited to accommodate the removed scene? If you’re only talking a sentence or two, then that scene was not needed.
